Default Using the Navigation Pane with modified styles

I am creating a template and need one of the following methods to work.

1. modify the indents on existing styles OR

2. have my created styles with appropriate indents show up when using the Navigation Pane.

Either solution is acceptable. Anybody know how to do either task?

Susan

Yes. What problem are you having?

Why use Microsoft Word’s built-in heading styles? by Shauna Kelly

For your own styles to work, they have to have outline levels assigned to them.

I figured out the indent solution. Thank you!

Now, how can I copy the custom styles I just created into an existing document's style tab?

Understanding Styles in Microsoft Word
Search the page for Manage Styles.

What you are talking about is the "Quick Styles Gallery," I think. The Recommend tab on the Manage Styles dialog lets you set display orders.

Then in the Modify style dialog, your can check the box to add the style to the Quick Styles list.

If in addition to doing outline levels, you are also doing numbering, you really, really, really, need to read the following article and follow its directions, even if it means starting over!
How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly
