Paste from other programs refuses to drop formatting
In the Option tab's Advanced menu, I have chosen the option to paste "text only" from other programs. Nevertheless, when I paste text copied from programs such as Acrobat or a browser, the text size, font, and other formats are preserved. This is annoying.
This used to work fine and I didn't change any settings just before it stopped functioning. I've tried changing the setting and then reverting, etc. -- nothing works. Any suggestions? |

Try using the 'paste special' option from Word's Paste button.

Yes, I had turned off the paste button -- it is annoying to have to use this each time -- but I will turn it on again.
I'd still like to know why it is not working. |

OK, I set up a macro to copy without formatting. It's faster than going through the button.

"I'd still like to know why it is not working" So would I like to know that, but I think that will have to be answered by the Microsoft engineers. Its a doggone shame that to take advantage of those nifty paste option defaults, you must also suffer the paste options balloons. If anyone has found a way to make them work with the paste options balloon disabled, please do tell!! |

Here are instructions to set up a "paste unformatted" macro:
http://misterslimm.wordpress.com/200...rd-shortcut-2/ It is easy to set this up so CTRL-SHIFT-V (or whatever you choose) pastes unformatted and CTRL-V pastes formatted text. Then disable the paste option balloon, as I have done, and voila, all is well. (I really only use these two options for pasting, but you could create other shortcuts if you use other paste options.) Good luck! |

Oh I wish! Your are lucky to have users who will LET you turn off the paste balloon. For the most part, I don't have that luxury. Most of my admins insist on letting the native function stand even though there macros available for the formatted paste, and the unformatted paste, and even though the paste balloon option "Keep Source Formatting" has a nasty habit of bringing unwanted styles and corrupt list templates into the destination document. So moi gets to waste a good half of valuable training time proving to the users why they want to steer clear of the paste options button most of the time. Isn't that crazy! |

I have built Alt+e,s,u hard-wired into my fingers for "paste unformatted text", even if 2010 sniffs at me for using "old" shortcuts. Wish I could find a complete list of these earlier-but-recognised shortcuts, too …
