want to make letterhead template with second page blank
I have tried the Forum suggestion to create new template and click on "Different First Page" in Options in the design thread. However, after entering my desired header and then clicking on Different First Page, I am left with a blank page. When I save that, and open the file again, it is only the blank page, and my header seems to be lost. All I am trying to do is create a letterhead template that will contain my header and footer info, and when I go onto the second page, have it a blank page with only the page number. I need a step by step method as I seem to be doing something wrong and am unable to create the template I want. Thanks for any help you send along. If you are simply trying to create a header and footer (with applicable data) for your basic document with the following pages being without the header, create the header and footer as normal (double-clicking in the header and footer areas to create). Once you have done that, click into the normal text portion of the document and enter some/all text followed by a SECTION BREAK from the PAGE LAYOUT ribbon in the Page Setup "Breaks" portion of the ribbon. Go to the next page and double-click in the Header (the Header and Footer Tools Menu will appear). In the "Navigation" section of that ribbon, click on "Link to Previous" to insure that it is NOT HIGHLIGHTED. Exit out of the header and continue your document on the second page. You should see that the header that appears on Page 1 will be absent on Page 2 (or, you may have to delete from page 2 and achieve the same result).
Other users may offer other solutions. But, Hope this helps... |

There is no need for Section breaks and the like. Apart from anything else, they destroy the text flow between the first & second pages. All you need do is configure the document (or, better still, its template) to use a 'different first page' layout.

I agree. No need for a Section break. Inserting one is asking for trouble.
If starting a blank template, edit the header/footer and create the header/footer you want on continuation pages (or leave blank). Then click on "Different First Page" and create the header/footer for the first page. It may not be intuitive, but it is not hard. Here are some resources. Thanks Paul & Charles. I surely didn't put too much thought into my response. After reviewing your input/links, I completely agree.
