Default Quick and neat access to multiple files

Hello.
I'm writing a story that has multiple chapters that I have saved as separate files (So I can find the relevant parts easily).
I'm in the process of transferring it all into word format and I wondered if there was a way to easily hop between one file and another.
Previously I have multiple files (In notepad) open on the desktop and I had to sift through them when trying to found relevant parts. I thought it'd be great if each file could be a tab (Kinda like in photoshop), so I can easily hop between one and the next without having a cluttered desktop.
Is there a way or something similar?
Thanks

I believe Microsoft decided we didn't want to work with a tabbed interface …

You can have multiple documents open at the same time, using either a single window or multiple windows, and use Ctrl-F6 or Ctrl-Shift-F6 to move forwards & backwards between them.
