There are lots of ways to delete files from within Word. One simple way is to right-click on an icon and pick delete.

I suspect that you are referring to "Reading Mode."

If the top left corner of your window has only the three commands shown in the first attachment, you are in Reading Mode.

You can go to the bottom right of your window in the status bar and pick the print preview mode.



You can go to File > Options
Under the General tab uncheck the option that says “Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view.”

You may also want to change the Trust Center Settings for blocked files and make sure that legacy files are not blocked from opening or saving.
