Default NEWBIE: Hyperlinks and Missing Headings

At work we have a procedure manual that we are trying to use hyperlinks to reference back and forth between the table of contents and then the actual page it is referecing.

My issue is even when I apply the "style" heading to my individual page headings they do not show up in the box in which to choose from when I am trying to assign a hyperlink to it. Does anyone know of any fixes for this? I even copied the formatting from a "working" header/hyperlink and it still does not show.

Any ideas??

Thanks
Crissy

It's not clear from your question whether or not your heading style is already a hyperlinked one. Let's say you have applied one of Word's default heading styles, Heading 1, to your headline. If you then create a table of contents (TOC), the Table of Contents tab in the Index and Tables dialogue box has a button called Options near the bottom. Click on this, note that the "build table of contents from" box has "Styles" checked. Scroll down in the TOC level pane, adn you will see that Heading 1 is checked to be included in your TOC.

Any style that you wish to have included in your TOC must similarly have a number next to it, indicating what level will determine its formatting (indent, font size, etc.). These formats can be customized using the Modify button on the Table of Contents tab.

Does this solve your problem??

Well no not really. I am using Word 2003 so I do not see anything about a table of contents tab.

My main issue is if I put a heading "style" on the heading, when I go to make a hyperlink to it, it does not show in the hyperlink dialogue box to be used as a option in the "Place in this Document" tab.

There is a drop down box in the Cross-reference dialogue box, top left, for Reference type. Select Heading from the choices, and your heading should show in the pane below.
