Specifying a user in restricted editing
Working on my 2013 Expert cert here. MOS study guide is not clear on how to specify a user after having selected part of a document (which, by the way, the guide designates incorrectly as a "section") in which to allow the user full editing. In the practice document downloaded from MS, the instruction is, "Specify settings so that only comments are permitted, but set up an exception so that you can edit the second section [sic] of the document."
The doc properties show the author as jpierce. I have tried using both that name and my user name as shown in Word/Options/General. In either case, Word responded, "Some of the users you have entered have not been added to the list because their names could not be verified." I tried entering my email address, and it thought that was just fine -- but I don't want to send it to myself, nor am I working on SharePoint, which, I presume, might recognize a user by email address. Would some please clarify this for me? Thanks. |

Having not seem the MOS study guide, I can't really say why it's using 'section'; perhaps its a legacy of the formfield days where, to have an editable portion in a protected document, it had to be in an unprotected Section.
As for the problem of applying user-based read-only editing exceptions, you might be able to achieve what you're after by creating a dummy user account on your PC then specifying yourself or that user as the one entitled to do the edits.

No such luck
I tried your suggestion, but it failed to produce any different result. Thanks for the idea, though.
