Text color changes when sent to print

If I create a Word text page all in blue, print-preview shows all in blue, but when sent to print some paragraphs print out in black. New printer - same problem. Saved document remains all in blue, but re-print shows same paragraphs in black again. This does not happen on all documents but once a document has this feature it remains. Weird or what ?
Any ideas on how to fix please ?
Thanx.

What you're describing could be some form of document corruption.

Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document based on the same template (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.

Thanks macropod. I have now tried this but without success. Additionally if I delete the black printing parts and retype them in blue they still come out black.
Other colours, green, red etc come out jsut fine.
Whatever the problem is it seems copied along with copy and paste.
If however I start a new document and retype the whole same page in blue then the problem is cured. But I don't want to have to go this way!

Might this be anything to do with the data spooling when it goes to the printer? (Though the document queu is empty.)
And if so, how might I 'clear out' any spooling snags?

macropod 05-23-2014 03:02 AM

That suggests a problem with your printer ink/toner.

If there were any 'spooling snags' (not that they'd have anything to do with this), you should see a printer icon appear on the Windows status bar. Clicking/right-clicking on that gives access to the printer queue.

I thought it was a printer problem so went out and bought a new printer. Problem persists.
I also note that if I try to print an email (Outlook) or download any Internet text that is in blue that also sustains printing in black.
The print queue is empty.

Is there some control when downloading text to stop it defaulting to black?

If it's happening with multiple printers, it's either a faulty:
1. printer driver (if the printers use the same driver);
2. Office installation; or
3. Windows installation.

Is it only Word/Office that is affected or does it affect non-MS programs as well? If it affects everything, you could try uninstalling & reinstalling the printer driver(s). If it affects only Word/Office, you could try repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel). If neither of those approaches works, it's probably a fault in the Windows installation, which a system restore, to a date before the error manifested, may be able to repair.

Thanks Paul,
New printer drivers were installed with the new printer so I feel sure the printer side is good. As if by confirmation if I open an Outlook email and color edit the text then print directly from Outlook the different colours, including blue, all print out perfectly. I am becoming persuaded therefore it is a problem specific to Word documents and re-installation of Office might be the answer. Do you concur ?
Thanx,
Gary

Usually, a repair of Office is sufficient, which is why I suggested that. Reinstallation usually achieves little that a repair won't, and a repair is much quicker.

Question: What happens if you save the document in RTF format then re-open them using WordPad? Do the colours look OK? Do they print OK (from WordPad)?

Hi Paul,

I saved in RTF then reopened in WordPad and printed. No luck. Same result, all text in blue but 2 paragraphs printing in black.

I would like to try your repair. Unfortunatley I don't quite follow your:
via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows
Control Panel) ??
I am using XP.

Can I ask you to elaborate a little more for me please ?

Thanks,
Gary

In XP, you should find Office in the Control panel under Add/Remove Programs.

It's strange though that the colours still don't print from WordPad. That suggests there's something about the colouring that applies to the document, not just to Word (if, indeed, Word is faulty). I'll concede a faulty Word installation might cause errant printing, but I wouldn't have thought that would carry over to the file itself and affect printing from an unrelated application.

Can you attach the document to a post with some representative content that prints correctly and some that doesn't (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen. Either original or the RTF should do.

HI Paul,

Thanks again.
Please find attached files:
BBG - all in blue text but only prints blue for first paragraph of text - signatue block below it prints in black.
File BBG1 - all in blue but only prints first line in blue, all text below it in black.

g.

macropod 05-24-2014 06:04 AM

On my screen, the:
• BBG document has blue text for the first paragraph but the signature block is black.
• BBG1 document has blue text above the table and black text below it.

I think you have your document descriptions swapped. Once that is allowed for, what I see corresponds with what you say prints, not with what you say you see. Perhaps your display driver or card is faulty.

Here's a test:
Select any text that you say isn't printing properly, then choose Font>Color Dropdown>More Colors>Custom. What RGB values do you see? In both cases I see R=0,B=0,G=0 for the text that displays/prints black.

Hi Paul,

You ar quite right - I got the file labels the wrong way around. Sorry.
Ok, in both cases, if I highlight the black printing parts and go to the colour control I am getting Red: 0 Green: 0 Blue: 255

And I have tun the Office 2010 repair and re-booted afterwards but the problem remains.

Sounds like we might be getting close if your RGB numbers are all 0 ???

Gary

macropod 05-24-2014 06:21 AM

Did you check the colours from the attachments you uploaded (i.e. by opening them from here), or from a different document?

Harvey55 05-24-2014 06:24 AM

Text problem - solved ???

Paul, I might ahve got it!

I went into BBG and highlighted the blue appearing text which prints blue. checked the RGB and the Blue was stil 255. I changed the Blue to 254 and sent to print - YES! all in blue! did the same on BBG1 and that has also worked.
Might it sound right to you if the highest rating Blue: 255 is not tolerated for some reason and defaults to black ?
Either way, if Blue set at 254 or less solves the issue - I'm delighted!

Gary
