Unhappy Continuous Page Numbers with Multi-sectioned document are not working.

SOLVED!!

I am working on a document with multiple sections. Section 4 is a full page; however, section 5 was inserted to create 2 columns, and then the document continues on with section 6, etc. etc.

The problem I am having is with continuous page numbers. Each footer is set to be the "Same as Previous". When it gets to the page following section 5, instead of being page 7, the page number is reset to '2'. I can manually set this to start again at page 7, but after a few minutes of editing, it has reset itself to page 2 again.

I have tried deleting the page numbers and reinserting the page number building block, but the same problem occurs. I have also tried adding a few page breaks so I can actually get to the footer for section 5, but again it is on page 2, while the footer for section 4 says page 6.

Help... Thank you!

This is handled in the page number formatting. In section 5(probably), your page number formatting is set to restart at 1. This did not just happen. Someone did this.

You need to change this, not to restarting at 7, but as continuing from previous section.

That wasn't the case Charles, section 4 was page 6, and section 5 was page 2. Setting the footer in section 5 to 'continuous' gave me the page 2. There was no place after the original page 1 (in section 2) that showed another page 2.

GOOD NEWS... I managed to fix it by deleting all of the footers, and then making sure I was in section 5 and inserting the page number and rest of the footer, and then copying the footer from section 5 back to section 2.

Somewhere between section 4 and section 5 there was something set that I could not get back to.

PS: I've used Word since the version 1.0. (Anyone wanna buy a set of original Windows Presentation Manager diskettes? LOL) I am really disappointed with Word 2013. There are numerous bugs.

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed.

Word 2013 is a pain, but I am only aware of one bug, and this is not it.

Sections have been causing problems with page numbering forever because you can have multiple sections on a page and any of them can tell page numbering to restart, even though the section that does this does not actually show any page numbers itself. Chances are that it was Section 4, then, that reset the page number and when you were in section 4, you were seeing the Section 3 page numbering in the footer.

I believe that the headers and footers displayed on a page are determined by settings in the secgtion that begins the page.

Default Pass the RAID, I found another 'bug' this morning.

Charles:

I went back to an older version of this document, and you were right. Although the page numbering on pages in section 4 was correct, the setting for section 4 said to start the page numbering at page 1 again. Instead of starting the numbering on page 1 in section 4, it set section 5 to page 2. At least that one is solved for now.

FRESH ODD BEHAVIOUR
This document has several charts in it. One page has 6 pie charts. I wanted these all to be the same size. When I click on the chart and choose the 'Layout Options' icon, and then go to 'See More' and then the 'size' tab, and look at the Absolute Height and Width numbers, they are totally out to lunch (4.9" x 0"). However, if I manually drag a corner of the chart first before going in, the absolute size corrects itself... this one only took about 15 minutes of uttering four-letter words to find the work around!
