Default Smaller photos but larger file size

Hi all,

I am using Word 2007.

I have a large document with several photos in it. The photos were scanned at a high resolution. The file is becoming so large that it is difficult to edit - long waits after a change is made.

I decided to try to alleviate this problem by down-sizing my photos in Photoshop (Windows Explorer shows that the new photos are indeed smaller), deleting the original photos from my document and inserting the smaller images in their place. Surprisingly when I did this the size of the document increased, not decreased as I expected.

What is happening?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Robert

If your document has track-changes 'on', it would now have both the originals and the updates. Also, if the originals had been compressed in Word, their resolution would have been no more than 220dpi. Your replacement images may be more than that if Word hasn't compressed them - and if it does you'll be back to what you had before...

For speed of editing with multiple graphics, check Word's 'Show picture placeholders' option (Word|Options|Advanced>Show Document Content). You'll still be able to see where the pictures are, but Word won't spend time rendering them.
