Default How to add a font to the default font set ?

How to add a font to the default font set ?
Issue: a customer of mine is an engineering firm and needs to use a custom font (GDT – engineering symbols of course ) an Access database.
The font is installed on the machine.

In Character Map ( Accessories , then System Tools) I can see the font. However the default font is Ariel , and so when I paste the chosen symbol into the Access text box ( or anywhere else) it changes into another letter- I assume based on an Ariel number match.
The only work around I can think of is to add these symbols into Ariel.
Can this be done ? Any other work arounds ?

Many thanks !
