Default Used RD for TOC for multiple docs. Now all show page 1.

Hey guys, I used the RD and my table of contents has all my headers, but the page numbers all say page 1 even though what I have displaying in my footers within the various documents have varying page numbers.

Is there anything I can try to have the TOC get the correct page numbers?

So I switched the formatting of my page numbers to be per Chapter, (e.g. Page 1.2, 3.40, A.3) per Heading styles. In the TOC document, when I build the TOC, each chapter is displayed correctly, but all of the pages are the first number in the chapter document (e.g. Page 1.1, 3.1, A.1) for all headings and subheadings.

I've been wrestling with this for a while but can't figure out how to get the pages to increment off of the first page of each chapter.

The RD field is buggy in some recent versions of Word. Unfortunately, I don't recall the details right now.

If at all possible, keep the document in a single file instead.

Comments in other forums mention the same problem … for example

[…] with Word 2013 - I couldn't get the page numbers to update properly when using RD fields to reference an external document. By opening my TOC file in Word 2010, however, I was able to get the page numbers to update correctly.

This was the only way I could get a good TOC with RD fields.
