Trying to link page numbers in the footer, but refuses to link after new section
Hi guys.
I have pages, then 2 landscape pages, the back to portrait for more pages. By default Word makes a new page section just before the page orientation change. No matter what options I try I cannot get the landscape page to display the same footer as the previous page? I have toggled link with previous over and over and it does nothing. Help!? Regards |

Sections may have more than one footer (and similarly for headers of course). Each type of footer (header) must be separately linked, or unlinked, to its "neighbor" in the preceding section.
For more on sections, headers, and footers, take a look at http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/HeaderFooter.htm. You may also find http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...apesection.htm helpful.

How do I check to see if there are multiple footers? I removed all previous links, the first 31 pages have a standard footer, until the landscape page. It will not link to the previous.

Apparently it could be the fault of a continuous break, but I have gone draft view and the breaks look normal.

See if "Different first page" or "Different odd and even" is selected on the Page Layout tab. If both of these options are selected, the section has three different footers (and three different footers). "Different first page" can be set for individual sections while "Different odd and even" always apply to all section, if it is selected.
To see all headers and footers in a section, and be able to link/unlink them, you will have to (temporarily) insert manual page breaks, so that the section is at least three pages long.

Neither option is selected. Am really lost here. Have got it to show the footer, but it says the page number is 0? It's the same for every new section, it now shows the footer, but page number is 0...

Sorted it. As well as linking footer, you have to format specific page numbers to continue from last section.... So unintuitive.

Actually, you can set page numbers to be continuous, or to restart, (in the Page Number Format dialog box) without linking or unlinking footers (or headers). These options are separate, as long as you don't want to change the position of the page number field, in which case a separate footer (or header) is required.
Sorry, I overlooked that the thread title mentions page numbers; I thought you were talking about footer content.
