Default How do you modify the font of a clickable table of contents

Just as the title says, want to create headers and a table of contents using the font and font size of my choice and have it still be clickable. I know how to enter headers and create a clickable table of contents and it works. I know it is easy to change the style of the table of contents or headers to whatever I choose, but then it is not clickable after I do it. I have devoted hours to this simple task, and all instructions on the internet are wrong or contain menu options that do not exist on MS Word 2010, which is what I am using. I do not care about creating a template which will alter the course of destiny for every document hereafter. I just want to make a table of contents, change the font, and have it work.

Usually, you'd just select the TOC and update the font. By default, the TOC styles are set to auto update, so changing the font changes the Style definition too.

BTW, if you are searching the Internet using the term "headers" I am not surprised that you are coming up with nothing. You are talking about heading styles; headers are something completely different. They are easily confused.

Thanks, I did get it to work finally. I first tried to change the TOC font manually, but when I updated the table it reverted back. So I changed the font on all the headings (yeah I didn't really mean headers) and auto updated, and it automatically changed the font on the table of contents as well.

Directly formatting the font in the headings is doing it the hard way! Much better than applying a direct font change to all headers, is to modify the TOC styles to the font you want. All formatting of the entries in the table of contents will be determined by the TOC styles, except formatting applied directly in a heading which is the basis for the TOC entry. The direct formatting works, but it is very easy, especially when in a rush on a big project, to forget to change one heading. Word is designed to use style-based formatting to very good effect.
