Default Horizontal Lines

How do I create a triple horizontal line - thin-thick-thin? I want to put it in the footer, but if I can just figure out how to create it that would be great.

You can create one via the Borders & Shading button on the Paragraph panel of the Ribbon's Home tab. One of the border options is exactly as you describe. Simply set that as a top or bottom paragraph (or text) border only.

Thanks for your response. I have been trying the method you mentioned but I cannot get it other than a box, not as a line. Anyway the good news is, I sat up last night till all hours and finally figured out that it is very simple. Insert - shape - choose single line - right click - format shape and you have the choice of line type and thickness. I wish you could select the length, but I'm happy with that.

You do that by clicking on whichever borders displayed in the box on that dialogue that you want to modify. Clicking on a border once toggles it off; clicking on it a second time toggles it back on again. You can even do the toggling via the different border options via the Borders & Shading button when you first click on it.

Thanks for your response but since I found a much easier way, I'm happy with that. Did you notice my second post ...

Yes, I did see your follow-up; my post was intended to help you understand what you were doing wrong. I'm also not sure what the issue is that you're having with the line, as you can make it any size you like.

Thanks Paul I appreciate that. There are usually 2 or 3 ways to perform any function and I choose the line of least resistance! Yes, I understand you can make it any length you want, I was just hoping I could make it an exactly 'measured' line, e.g. 3.25 inches.

But you can! With the line selected, simply change its size in the Size panel of the Drawing Tools tab.
