Default Pge numbers on pages and in TOC not matching

I have generated a Table of Contents and the page numbers are not the same as the actual page numbers. When I use Ctrl + mouse click on the page number in the TOC, it will take me to the correct page but the page numbers are different. Help!!

If, when you click on the TOC page, it takes you to the correct page number I would suspect that you do not have your page numbers set up correctly for your type of document (you did not specify...Sectioned? Continuous?). While there are multiple webpages that would provide guidance, I found this one to be interesting: http://guides.lib.umich.edu/content....94&sid=2027882.

Hope this helps...

The page number formats, including restarts, are determined by the settings in the Page Number Format dialog box. Make your modifications via Insert tab | Page Number | Format Page Numbers. (Note that these settings can be different for different Word sections.) When you are done, don't forget to update the TOC.

If you are trying to set up a front matter, see http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...atter_2007.htm.
