How to make word ignore a specific shape when printing?
I've got a couple of shapes and text boxes on a Word document.
These shapes are simply guidelines for the user to follow. I want these shapes to appear when editing a document but I don't want them to print. Is there any way to do this? Thanks. |

Easy
In Options, on the Display tab, uncheck the Print Drawings checkbox.

A little patience wouldn't go astray. Some of us have things to do other than answering forum posts (e.g. eating, sleeping, etc.)
To see how you can conditionally show or hide content at print time, check out the 'Show or hide instructions & graphics at print time' topic in my Microsoft Word Date Calculation Tutorial, at: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/sho...ation-Tutorial or: http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm#Third_party

I've got a few shapes I do want to keep during printing and Also, I want it so that I can print the document elsewhere in this fashion without having to alter the settings of the other computer's MS word. Can I do this any way? Quote:
And thanks for your suggestion, but I didn't quite understand it. Here's what I found from where you pointed me towards. Show or hide instructions & graphics at print timeI don't understand it. |

Did you also read the tutorial's Introduction, especially the'Viewing and updating fields' topic?

In your "DateCalc" document, you show how to hide text when printing I believe. How do I go about implementing this to a shape. See, I'm trying to hide shapes so they don't appear when printing but they do otherwise. Sorry for my lack of knowledge regarding this. |

The part of the tutorial you cited in post #5 shows how to do that with an inline shape (though the logic is reversed). For a floating shape object (e.g. square wrapping), the principle is the same - you just need to position the anchor between the double quotes where the inline shape now appears.

That's not much of a description to work from if you're wanting help. Perhaps you might care to enlighten us with more details...
