Unhappy Macro toolbar

Hello all

I am hoping to modernise my use of Office, and am moving to 2013 from 2003. One of the essential functions I use is (loads) of macros for different client names and addresses. On 2003, i simply placed all the macros in a toolbar I created. In office 2013, i have managed to transfer all the macros into "normal", but can only access them in the usual way by going into macros and typing in the one I want. This takes much longer than just clicking the macro in the toolbar box I have on the screen. I cannot find a way to create and display a new macro toolbar in 2013. It was so easy in 2003, and I'm sure I just haven't found what to do. Help!

Sorry to tell you but easily customizable toolbars are a thing of the past.

There is the QAT, though, which is easily customizable. See Modifying the QAT and Ribbon in Microsoft Word. I would recommend storing any QAT customizations relating to macros in the template which contains the macros.

Beyond that, you can customize the Ribbon (outside of the Word interface) and create your own custom Ribbon tabs and groups. If this is only for you, you can use the Interface to do this. Otherwise, you will want to edit the XML directly. See Customize the Ribbon (It doesn't take rocket science).

Finally, you could take a template containing your old toolbar and macros and put that into the Word Startup Folder. That would give you access to your old toolbar under the Add-ins Tab.

Most grateful for your thoughts. I managed to discover most of what you said, apart form the clever stuff, obviously. I have customised each macros (30 of them) to specific key strikes e.g. "Sunbury" becomes "alt-S,U". Took a bit of imagination, but fine now. I guess that was what you were talking about. This might be a useful thread for other old timers like me. Excellent forum.

OK, so that is how you are using macros. That is a Wordperfect usage; with Word, you would be better served with AutoText or AutoCorrect instead of macros to produce text. See:
BTW, your usage of sequential keyboard shortcuts is very sophisticated. Most users never pick up that this is possible.
