Default Auto-complete and typing in drop down lists

I have a table and some of the columns are populated with dropdown lists of choices. When filling in the table, is there a way to use autocomplete so that when I tab to a cell with a dropdown list, and type "T" for example, the list of choices pops up and the first entry starting with "T" is highlighted? In most programs, web pages, etc., when you encounter this type of list ("Select Country" for example) and you type a letter, it jumps to selections starting with that letter. As I have things set up now, if you start typing when the dropdown list is selected, it just inputs whatever you type and ignores the list.

I know that you can use Alt-down arrow to open the list, but most people don't know this. Is there any other way to accomplish this without using a mouse click? I've got about 20 choices that people should be able to choose from.

And while I'm asking about this...
When I have dropdown lists in cells and I push tab, it doesn't jump to the next column, it jumps to the next column that has a dropdown list. Why?!

Driving me crazy. Thanks!

Word's dropdown lists don't support that kind of functionality for formfields or content controls; only in userforms.

As for the second question, that's because they're designed that way (actually, it goes to the next control, regardless of type). If you want to go from the dropdown to a cell, simply click in the cell.
