Word 2010 Section page number Formatting
I need help with Word 2010 Section page number Formatting.
I have a book with three section breaks. In first section only a title page is included; it has no header/footer information; it works. In Section 2 I would like to number the pages I, ii, iii, etc. I can’t separate it from the continuous page numbering in the next section. In section 3 I would like to start with page number 1; desired format “Page 1 of ##”; this format done in section 3 carries backwards to section 2. Can this be done? I have the following reference books at hand: “Using microsoft Word 2010” by Tim Huddleston with Michael Miller. “Picture Yourself Learning Microsoft Word 2010” by Diane Koers. “Microsoft Word 2010” by Faithe Wempen. I also have the inability of reaching the SettingFormat for a Page-Numbering Code tab because of my format/style settings. Tia JP |

Thank you for your response. The listed procedures require the use of the "Page Number Button" under the Design Tab. When I attempt to use it I get the following error message: "Word can not open this document template. (C:\...\14\~$ilt-In Building Blocks.dotx)
I suspect when I developed my styles for this document, something was left out? I also get a similar message when I try to use "Quick Parts" under the Insert Tab. |

That suggests Word's 'Built-In Building Blocks.dotx' file might be missing or corrupt. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925175

More likely it is corrupt. If it is missing, Word will rebuild a default one.

Thanks to one and all who responded with advice. My Building Blocks.dotx was corrupted and it has been fixed.
I have one more issue to resolve, I like using the format of Page i of ix in section break 2 and Page 1 of 120 in section break 3; but Number of pages field obtain from Quick Parts counts all section pages so that I have Page i of 120. I need help in removing the "Same as Previous" at the start of each Section break. TIA |

The links in post #2 describe how to handle those issues. I don't see why you'd need to remove the 'Same as Previous' for anything other than the first Section following the front matter.
