Formatting: Paragraph /line spacing problem
This is a new problem today...I type a title for my page. Then when I hit "Enter", the cursor first scooted to the middle of the page. So, I checked and confirmed all my settings in Paragraph-> Spacing and Line Spacing. All is good - I'm in Arial 11pt. There's no reason it should be treating a line change like I am in a 150pt font, or more!
I went into Programs, and did a "repair" on Word. I've done this twice now. The first time it changed the cursor from the middle of the page to now it is scooting to the end of the page! Repaired again - and it is going to the bottom still. Computer not showing a virus. ---- My next try is to do a reset to an earlier date. -- -Thinking maybe one of the MS updates messed up again... Do I have something going goofy in my Registry or motherboard, or something? .................... I'm somewhat a techy, but not in all areas. If I do an "uninstall / reinstall of MS Office- do I need to take off all my MS office created files first, so I don't lose these? Thanks. Humbly appreciate any help offered. |

I would suggest that you start by opening the Reveal Formatting pane (press SHIFT+F1)
Put a checkmark in both boxes at the bottom of the pane, Distinguish style source and Show all formatting marks Expand any collapsed items in the pane This may give you a clue. Also, there is a Select Object command ... in the Home Tab, Editing group, Select dropdown button, Select Objects |

Tried Your Suggestions - Didn't Work
Thank you for trying to help me. When I looked at the Reveal Formatting, everything was set as I expected. The only thing I am noticing is it is picking up my book formatting page size. But I'm okay with that.
Checked the boxes as you suggested for distinguish style source and showing all formatting marks. I expanded the one area that I could. Tried Home - then under Select used drop down to Select Objects. No surprises. Started typing in doc - again. Finished first line. Wanted to go to first paragraph to start typing - it's back to dropping me to like where a footer should be. Very frustrating! There's something this is trying to throw this either every four lines - OR - to the bottom. And it is set for single line spacing ant 11 pt Arial still. |

Found the answer - I think...
http://www.word-tips.com/dotx-and-dotm.html
Sue's Word Tips saved the day! I found this online after some digging.... She talks about how to create, change, and use templates. I just used her "change" directions and went in and changed the Normal template which had somehow ended up as a .dotm and reset the information, then saved the new version. As long as I create documents using that it seems to so far be functioning okay. She has awesome info on that website for anyone else in a panic. Thanks Neil for trying to help. |

A title page template might have an area near the top for the title, an area near the center for the author's name, and an area at the problem for the publisher's name and year of publication. It would be jimmied so you could not type in the white-space area between those predetermined locations. It could also have key-bindings to hijack the Enter key and macros as well. I was hoping if you clicked on Select Objects it might make an invisible image or table show up but it was worth a try. I guess the next step would be to look on the Developer Tab, Templates Group, and click on Document Template to open the Templates and Add-ins dialog box. The text box at the top would show the path and name of the template currently in use for your document. |

Resetting the Normal template, yes, that should probably work, since it's doing okay so far
I would hesitate doing that on my Normal template because it stores a bunch of stuff that I wouldn't want to lose, but making a backup copy would be worthwhile in a pinch |

Templates in Microsoft Word The second thing is that your original problem likely came from vertically justified alignment in your template. Alignment / Justification of Text in Microsoft Word The normal template should seldom be your basis for new documents. You should have custom templates for most of the things you do and the normal template acts more like a scratch pad to hold resources. |
