Default Word 2003 and Word 2007

I have a Vista computer. I use Microsoft Word 2003 on it. My daughter has a Vista computer also but she has Word 2007. When I send my daugther a Word 2003 file she can open it but she is not able to modify it in a Word 2007. How can we get around this problem.

What does she see when she clicks Review>Protect Document?

Failing here, I would go to the Office Symbol in the upper left corner, then select Prepare and give this a look-see
