"Ignore All" Not Persistent After Close and Reopen
In Word 2013, I am having difficulty with the ‘Ignore All’ command when right clicking a word that Word has flagged as misspelled. The individual ‘Ignore All’ command does not stick after the document is closed and re-opened. However, if I go to Review | Spelling & Grammar, and there select 'Ignore All' on the flagged items, they stick after the document is closed and reopened. I have Word 2007 on another machine, and the individual ‘Ignore All’ command does stick after the document is closed and re-opened. Maybe this is new behavior for Word 2013?

I can't reproduce what you describe. For me, the ignored words are still ignored after saving and reopening the document, even in Word 2013. I have to click the Recheck Document button at File tab | Options | Proofing in order for Word to locate the errors again.

Thanks Stefan. I think I have a bit of mystery here. There are definitely some of my Word 2013 .docx files that show the 'non-sticking' behavior that I described. However, I sampled other .docx files and they do remember the ignored words. Can't quite put my finger on what the differences are between the two sets of files, but will do more research as I go.

Could you share one of those problem files? You can attach files here (of course you should remove any sensitive information first).

"Ignore All" Not Persistent After Close and Reopen
Stefan -- here is an example of a Word 2013 .docx file that does not remember that 'Ignore All' command after closing and reopening. You have to take the attachment out of 'protective view' after opening to see the red squiggly lines under the misspelled words. Thanks.

Looking at your example file, I see that ignored grammatical errors won't be remembered if I save, close and reopen the document. However, things work (on my system) for ignored spelling errors.

Stefan, I guess this will remain a mystery. My system is Windows 8.1 and yours shows as Windows 7, but I shouldn't think that would matter to Word 2013. Not a huge problem to invoke Review | Spelling & Grammar. Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Ignore All Not Saving FIX
I had the same problem with ignore all on one single document. All my other docs were fine. Here is how I fix the problem:
I first used the select all function, and copied the text I wanted to keep in the Word 2013 document I was having a problem with. I then opened Notepad and pasted the text to clear any formatting Word 2013 had made to the text. I then closed Word 2013. After that I opened a new document up in Word 2013. Then I went back to the Notepad doc, and selected all, and copied the text. I then went back to the new document in Word 2103, and pasted in the raw text. After I went through the document finding all the words Word was flagging, and did the "ignore all" option to all of them, and saved the new document. When I reopened the new document Word 2013 had remembered all the text I wanted it to ignore. I hope this helps someone. Seth |
