Default Page numbers in footers acting weird (Word 2007)

Let's see if I can explain this in a way that will make sense.

I'm working on a document with about nine different sections. The first 6 sections are only one page per section, containing roman numerals for the page numbers in the footers. Section 7 is where the actual page numbers begin with normal numbers in the footers.

Here's my problem: I don't want the footers to appear in the first 6 sections, but every time I try to delete the contents of the footer on page 2 (section 2), all the contents in the footers in section 7 and 8 disappear, except for the first page of those two sections.

Basically, when I delete the footer in section two, section 7 and 8 lose all their footers from page two of the section to the end. So page 1 of section 7 still has a footer, but page two, three, four etc. of section 7 have none. Then page one of section 8 still has a footer, but page two, three four, etc. of the section are also gone.

And if I try to manually replace them, the footer in section 2 (page 2) returns.

I can't figure out for the life of me what the connection is between section 2, 7 and 8. And it's driving me nuts. I've tried messing with the "same as previous" option, but it seems to have no desirable effect.

I've been trying for nearly a WEEK to get my page numbers to behave the way I want, and I have to say that I'm horribly disappointed with the way Microsoft designed this particular feature.

If anyone is able to offer any insight, I'm all ears. But if no one can help me, I won't really be surprised. Thanks for your time.

Oh my gosh, I just about don't believe it, but I think I figured it out. Don't ask me what I did, cause I couldn't tell you for sure.

If the problem doesn't come back, I will mark this as solved.

Beware "Link to previous"?

That is a big roger that. There is nothing else that causes behaviour like that.

If you want a good resource on headers:
