Default Indexing question--changing margins

I have my book manuscript in 8.5x11 format with 1 inch margins. I generated an index using the concordance file method. Assuming the locations of the field codes for index entries are tied to text locations, not to page numbers, I would like to be able to change the margins to, say, 4.5x7.5, and regenerate an index for the new pagination.

Can I do that? If not, do I have to undo the inserted field codes, reformat, and then regenerate the iondex using the same concordance file?

Thanks for any advice.

After you have modified the margins, just update the index (click inside it and press F9).

I should have mentioned that the document uses several different paragraph margin settings through the document (about 125 pages long in 8.5x11 size page format). I'm wanting to put it into format for a 6x9 page with proportionality in each margin setting preserved.

Do I have to do this paragraph by paragraph?

Since you already have different margins, you must have multiple sections in the document. You can change the paper format for all sections without changing the margins. Display the Page Setup dialog box by clicking the dialog launcher button on the bottom right of the Page Setup group on the Page Layout tab. Change the paper format on the Paper tab. Make sure "Apply to" says "Whole document."
