Smile Tick box to be able to save or print specific pages

Hi

What I am trying to do is from a master document tick a non-printing box that will enable me to either save to another file name, or print, only those pages that have been ticked.

Thanks for all help, this will save me printing 40 to 50 unused pages every time.

I am not aware of Word's ability to "tick" a box to print or save selected pages. However, you can print selected pages using the Print dialog menu and specifying the pages to be printed in the "Pages:" area. In doing so, an example for printing pages 2, 3, 4, 10, 12 and 17 through 23 would be to enter "2-4,10,12,17-23" in the "Pages:" area.

This process will NOT SAVE selected pages...only print them.

I know this is more of a hinderance to what you were asking for but, as I mentioned, I am not aware of that process.

Maybe one of the participating MVP's/other posters can assist further.

I am first responding not to your question, but to your use of the term "master document." The Master Documents "Feature" is very problematic and would pop up in a Google or Word help search using that term. It would cause you problems.

Look into AutoText and the AutoTextList field. This is a part of Building Blocks.

Otherwise what you want would require macros and programming. A UserForm comes to mind. Create & Employ a Userform

Default Thanks

Thanks guys for your prompt reply.
There are 100 odd pages in this document and the number to be printed/saved varies.
I will re-post in the appropriate forum to try and find macro/programming solution.

You have to separate printing from saving. They are two different functions. You can do both, but it may be a good idea to deal with them a different processes.

Now if you are talking about being to choose specific pages to print, and then ALSO extract those pages into a different saved file, then say so. This would take some programming as the way Word looks at "pages" is not quite intuitive.

Thanks for your replies.
I now understand what I want.
So what I am now looking for is to be able to select pages to be saved as a different file.
If selecting what is in a particular section is easier then that would be great also or up until the next page break.

Please try to be specific and give examples. So...for example...

You want to be able to select pages 2 to 6, 9, 11 to 23

and NOT print them; and save those specific pages to a NEW document.

So again, you do not want to print anything, just save different pages together into a new document. If this is in fact the case, I will state right away that while it could be done, to develop it would take much much more work than simply selecting each chunk you want and doing a copy\paste into a new document. This is, as stated previously, because of the way Word deals with "pages".

Thanks for your reply
I see that it is probably much bigger than I anticipated.
If I can just save selected pages to a file would solve the problem. The I can do what I like with them
The pages selected will vary according to other parameters.
To recap;
I need to be able to select pages to be saved into another file/file name.

To explain further what has been said, Word does not really understand "pages!" They really are not configured until it is printed.

I would urge you again to look into AutoText (Building Blocks).
Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word
AutoText is the premier method to use for reproducing chunks of text in Word. If you format the first paragraph in each chunk to have a page break before, it will form a new page when inserted.

Together with a userform, you could easily create a new document with the content you want and, if you want, print it.

Thanks for your help but with 100 or more pages and varying selections of those pages this will not work.
Thank you for your input.
