Default Macro Storage

In what file location are macros from MS Word stored? After I create on on my machine, I want to sent it to others to use but I can't find it once I create it.

Macros are stored in macro-enabled templates or documents. The default location is the Normal.dotm template (= the blank document template).

To share macros, save them to a custom template and distribute the template. See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/macrosvba/...buteMacros.htm.

Stefan gave you the base reference.

For more, see

Moving (Sharing) Customizations in Microsoft Word
Word 2007 & Later Key Data File Locations

For general use macros, a global template is usually best.

How can I get the macro I created in word on to other people's computers. I've tried coping and pasting it to a new module on their computer but it gives a message that it can't be saved in text format and won't save. I've saved it as a word document and a text file and neither work. They work one time but won't save on their computer.

You have to save the file containing the code in a macro-enabled template and put it in the other person's Startup folder (located in the user profile in Windows).

Another way you could do this is to use the File / Export File facility in your VBA Editor to save the module with all the macros you want the other people to have, then use the File / Import File facility in their VBA Editors to install the macros on their computers. If their VBA Editor's File / Save function fails to save the macros, they will have to use the Import File facility every time they restart Word.

This is really doing it the hard way. Have you tried using a global template?

mbesspiata, Stephan and Charles have given you the links and information to do what you ask for. A global template file, either put into another computer's Word Startup folder (if you want the macro code available automatically), or in any available folder if you want to be able to load it (or unload it) dynamically.

Yes you can also use an export\import file, but as Charles mentions, it is doing it the hard way, and not needed. Plus it only works one at a time; if you want multiple other computers to have access over a network, then a global template is the only way to go.
