![]() The insert caption appears to be stuck at one Figure #. It repeatedly use the same number and only half of the time creates the box to holds the caption. Can to long of a statement in the caption cause this behavior? Can editing the caption cause this behavior? TIA JP |

First of all, make sure that you are not tracking changes in the affected document. Caption numbering may be incorrect until you have accepted (or rejected) changes and turned off the tracking.
If tracking changes isn't the issue, press Alt+F9 to display field codes. Assuming that you are using the built-in Figure caption, you should see { SEQ Figure } in place of the figure captions. Note that captions will be placed in boxes if you add them to wrapped objects (that is, to objects whose Text Wrapping is not "In line with text").
