Symbol characters when saving Word documents as HTML
When a Word document containing symbols (such as Greek letters) is saved as HTML, the symbols don't display correctly in most browsers, such as Firefox, Chrome, etc. The only browser that seems to display the symbols is IE. I've been told that this is because the official "standard" for symbols in HTML is to use something called Unicode (I think), but Microsoft doesn't use Unicode, which is why the symbols don't display in most browsers.
Can anyone tell me how to save Word documents to HTML in such a way that the symbols characters will display correctly in Firefox, Chrome, and other browsers (besides IE)? |

You might find this article interesting:
Symbol font – Unicode alternatives for Greek and special characters in HTML http://www.alanwood.net/demos/symbol.html It does not, however, explain how to modify your Word document so that any symbols it contains are replaced with their Unicode text font equivalent. Symbols inserted into a Word document through Word's Symbol Dialog Box should display correctely in all browsers when saved as web pages using the SaveAs dialog box. This is not the case for symbols inserted into a Word document by changing the font to a non-text symbol font (this is probably why you are having a problem). |

Possible Answer
Hey there - not tech savvy, just OCD.
No idea what ya'll are talking about with the whole language coding thing or whatever. But I found this thread trying to fix that issue and so far this fix worked File --> options --> save --> "Preserve fidelity when sharing this doc" --> click on ALL NEW DOC from drop down --> then check off "embed" and I checked both boxes underneath that (Embed only blah blah - and the - do not .. blah blah boxes) If this helps, yay. If it makes no sense in computer language, just ignore. LOL sincerely, a medical professional who hates computers lol. |
