Default Replace all reference types and cross-references?

Hello folks,

I need to change all my "Figure" captions and cross-references to "Figure 1-" captions and cross-references. Thus, Figure 1 will become Figure 1 - 1, etc. I have created a new reference type, "Figure 1 -", but now comes the painful work of re-captioning all my figures and changing all the cross-references to it.

I'm wondering - is there a way to automatically change all "Figure" captions to "Figure 1 -" captions, and to do the same to the cross-references?

thanks!

If your revised numbering is achieved via the 'Include Chapter number' option, it would be easy enough to use a macro to apply that to all captions. Other than that, a Find/Replace operation might be able to be used on the captions (attach a sample document to a post if you'd like me to see if I can work something out along those lines). The changes don't need to be applied to the cross-references as updating them will automatically apply the new format.

I've come up against this problem again, so I'm bumping the thread. See the linked document as an example. In the example, I would like to automatically change "Table 2 - 1" to just "Table 1" (i.e. remove the "2 - " from both the caption and cross reference, leaving them linked). Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rather than providing links to dropbox, which seems to have some accessibility issues, it would be helpful if you attached your document to a post. You can do that via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab.

It appears the '2-' that's used in the caption is not part of the Chapter referencing supported by Word's caption feature. Accordingly, if you delete that, then update the cross-references (e.g. Ctrl-A, F9), all should be fixed.
