Strange mod of onscreen Document Appearance Word 2000
I recently deleted some programs on my C: disk. Afterward, when I opened MS Word the blank document that opens automatically in Print Layout view shows lines across the page that do not appear in the Print Preview view.
I should be seeing a white page when Word starts up. Any idea what's wrong? Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 01-11-2014 at 05:28 PM. |

Vertical and horizontal dotted lines?
At page margins? On existing documents as well as new ones? It could be that you have viewing of text boundaries turned on. Tools > Options > View --- Note, I changed your post heading because the question does not appear to have anything to do with the normal style nor the normal template. |

Thanks. Problem persists.
At 100% I see gray lines running across the page between margins, 1 line for each text line location. At 200% I also see close vertical lines. On both existing and new documents. text boundaries is off. |

I also see an accent mark over the "e" in the word cafe. The horizontal lines are spaced for a font size that is larger than my default 12 point font.
I don't know how to fix this. Help please. |

Now I notice another discrepancy in the way Word behaves. In addition to the horizintal lines, I now notice that a long document that was carefully formatted paragraph by paragraph opens with a different set of styles than were attached to the document as last saved. For example, text that was formatted as Normal now says Footer for style.'
Something is very wrong and is inexplicable. What has happened? |

Please:
Is Word the only program where this is showing up? What about your internet browser? Do these show up in draft view? If what you have is a check pattern, I suspect gridlines. The control for display of these is on the Drawing Toolbar under Draw > Grid. Uncheck the box to display gridlines on screen. What happens if you increase or change the space between lines or paragraphs. Does that change the spacing of the lines you are seeing? |

Suspected Document corruption
Charles,
I appreciate your patience and guidance. You are performing a wonderful service. The problem of the unwanted lines was inadvertent unintended display of gridlines. I printed out your tutorial on Document Corruption for future possible needs. THANK YOU!!! Quote:
