How do I right-align section numbers for a given TOC level? For example, my TOC level 2 section numbers are left-aligned, which becomes a problem for section numbers 10 and above (eg. 10.1, 13.3, etc.) because they and the following headings don't line up the same as section numbers 9 and lower. It looks terrible. Here's an example:
9.1 Widget pricing in USA 9.2 Widget pricing in Japan 10.1Widget sales in USA 10.2Widget sales in Japan If I could right-align the TOC section numbers, then the spacing after them would be consistent, the headings would line up too and everything would look great and be easy to read. I've played around with the indents and tabs in the modify style-format dialog boxes (paragraph and tabs), as well as dragging indents and tabs about on the ruler, but can't figure it out. Word seems to force a left-align. Thanks |

You can specify a hanging indent for the TOC styles; that will improve the look. Of course, it isn't what you asked for, and there is no way to right-align heading numbers in the TOC.
