Word 2013 Shift + F5 Go back not working
I need to move back and forth between places I've edited in a document. Shift + F5 is not working for returning to the previous edit. I researched this quite a bit and concluded that it is a known and unsolvable problem in Word 2013 and maybe earlier versions. It worked fine in my Word 2003.
This is an extreme inconvenience in my work. I work with documents up to 150 pages and need to easily navigate between edits. Does anyone know of a solution? Thank you. |

Within a document, within a Word session, Shift+F5 should let you move between the most recent edit points. The shortcut no longer works reliably after you save, close and reopen the document.
MVP Graham Mayor has suggested the following set of macros to fix the problem: Code:
Sub FileSave() On Error Resume Next ActiveDocument.Bookmarks.Add Range:=Selection.Range, name:="OpenAt" ActiveDocument.Save End Sub Sub FileSaveAs() On Error Resume Next ActiveDocument.Bookmarks.Add Range:=Selection.Range, name:="OpenAt" Dialogs(wdDialogFileSaveAs).Show End Sub Sub AutoOpen() If ActiveDocument.Bookmarks.Exists("OpenAt") = True Then ActiveDocument.Bookmarks("OpenAt").Select End If End Sub

"Within a document, within a Word session, Shift+F5 should let you move between the most recent edit points." I assure you, it does not. It doesn't work at all, ever.
This function is so crucial to people who work with long documents. Why has Microsoft not addresses this in all these years? I have no ability at all to work with macros, don't even know what one is. |

Shift+F5 does work for me. Have you verified that the shortcut is assigned to the GoBack command (look in the Customize Keyboard dialog box)? Also, note that an actual edit must be done; just looking at text, or selecting it, won't suffice.

Yes, shift F5 is currently an assigned shortcut for Go Back
Yes I know that the document must be edited. I worked successfully with Shift F5 in Word 2003. |

The next step is to troubleshoot for poorly designed add-ins. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...104011864.aspx. Please note that the headline is misleading, because the article isn't all about starting Office applications; it deals with problems running Office as well.

I did find another keyboard shortcut that works for Go Back: Alt Control Z. This is listed along with Shift F5 among the shortcuts. The problem seems to be specifically with the function key, as Alt and Control are both working normally.
