Default Filling in legacy field causes rest of line to move to next tab stop

I created a form using Office 2010 and Windows 7 Pro. On the same horizontal line is: Name and its (legacy text field), several tabs to the word Age and its (legacy number field). The "fill out" tab sequence works over 80 sequential fields. However, if the letters typed into the Name (legacy field) goes past the tab stop on the ruler, the word Age and its corresponding legacy number field moves to the next tab stop of the ruler, thus disrupting the appearance of the form. Is there a way to prevent the movement of the word Age and its legacy field?

Is one possible clue "several tabs"? I'm wondering whether setting your own tab stops instead of using the defaults might give the Name field more room to grow without kicking the Age field along.

A possible alternative is to use a table, so that long entries wrap within their own cell rather than messing up other aspects of the layout.

Thanks for a response. The "several tabs" are in fact the default tabs. I even tried changing their spacing. I have tried tables of single, double and other fields, with the
legacy field inside for the user to be able to tab through the page. I will try again with
a table and see what happens with a long entry.
Thanks again for the response

If you insert tab-stops where you want them, the default tabs cease to apply and, instead of having multiple tabs that can get pushed out of position, you need only have the one pertaining to your tab-stop.

Default Solved

Thanks for the help! Setting the tabs where I want them does indeed stop the movement of other information on the same line. I also discovered one can set
individual tabs for each line and they all hold.
Many thanks for the help.
