Question Noob questions

Well i have been editing with GDocs now for a little while now, and whenever i try to publish as a word doc it never comes out correctly. I have a good idea what i want the doc to look like (thanks to the templates on google) but need to recreate them in MWord. here is the link to what im trying to recreate http://tinyurl.com/m3g2rv, im not asking to be spoonfed this information at all since i need help and need to learn this. All i would need is some direction on how to get to that end result. Basically my main problem is how to recreate the background, the coloring i have figured out by going to Format>Background. but to have the white on both sides and the grey in the middle is where im stuck. well mostly i use MSWord 2000 from work but also edit/create through 2007. thanks in advance.
