Default cross reference hyperlinks to text box

I inserted a caption under a figure. I then inserted a cross reference hyperlink to the same caption. When I click the hyperlink, it selects the text box around the caption with the caption shaded grey. Is this normal? Is it an option than can be turned off? Am I doing something wrong? I just want the hyperlink to go to the caption WITHOUT selecting the caption textbox. Is this possible?

The behaviour you describe is normal for a hyperlink to a textbox.

Is there a reason for using a textbox for the caption and for not inserting a cross-reference to the caption rather than a hyperlink?

Thanks or you answer. I guess my question was kind of confusing. I am trying to learn Word 2013. Right now, I am learning inserting captions and hyperlinks to captions. How do I hyperlink to the GRAPHIC without selecting the text box?

That suggests your graphic and caption are both in a textbox. My first question, then, is why?

Previously, too, you said the hyperlink was to the caption, but now it's not clear what you're referencing for the hyperlink.

I made the graphic a bookmark and made "Bookmark" as my reference type. Now, it works as I wanted. Whenever "Figure" was my reference type, it would reference the text box with the "Figure" label in it. I guess the terminology confused me. I thought "Figure" reference type would reference the graphic. There should be a "graphic" reference type in the drop down menu. Thanks for your help.
