What does 1.5 line spacing mean?
What does 1.5 line spacing actually mean in Word. Does it mean 1.5*(single line spacing)?
By 'line spacing' I mean what is called line spacing in this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicksherman/5640736164/ |

It means 1.5 * single spacing, yes. I have no idea about the concepts in the photo you posted.

Ok thanks.
By the way, you said: 'I have no idea about the concepts in the photo you posted.' Ok, but do you know what does line spacing actually measure in Word. I assume It measures the thing that is also called 'line spacing' in that picture? |

AFAIK...
Default (single) Line spacing is type point + 6 pt. Word default of 0 "Space Before" = 6 pt. This shows in the default increments of 6 pts in the dialog. The default Single line spacing = type pt + 6. The term "leading" in the graphic is equal to the Word property Space Before. So if you have a Space Before = 10 pts, and the paragraph is set as single, then if your type point = 12 Line spacing = 10 + default of 6 + 12 = 28 pts |

Word uses the term "line spacing" for the distance between text lines within a paragraph. "Spacing before" and "spacing after" determine how much extra spacing is added when you press Enter to create a new paragraph.
If you specify variable line spacing—Single, 1.5, Double, or Multiple—the spacing depends on the selected font and size. For example, Double is twice the value of Single (as expected).

Sorry, as I wrote this isn't predictable. 20% is approximately accurate (for some fonts, such as Times New Roman) but it may be larger or smaller. If you experiment with paragraphs using "Single" line spacing and the same point size but different fonts, you'll see the difference. For example, Georgia 12 points has larger line spacing than Times New Roman 12 points.

Ugeen: As per my response to your other thread, the 1.5 line spacing depends on the font metrics and isn't fixed for a given point size.
