Default Set Page Colour in Normal.dotm for Word 2013

I have trouble seeing black , or most any colour, on white. Given in Word 2013 you have a choice of a white background or nothing this makes it hard to see, and very painful after a while.

I thought I'd set a default page colour in the normal.dotm so when I opened a new file I'd get something other than glaring white.

I modified the template in %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates but every new document starts with white.

Any way to make it the page colour the default which is what normal.dotm was supposed to be for ?

I could record a macro but would prefer not to.

I believe you'd do better to change the Window colour via the Windows Control Panel, as that will apply to all applications. In any event, changing the template colour also means you'll be changing the printout colours of all your documents for whoever reads them.

To change the Window colour via the Windows Control Panel, Got to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization>Window Color and Appearance>Advanced appearance settings>Item:Window, then choose a colour more suited to your preferences. Note the numerous other visual settings you can change there too.

Thanks for that. Last time I tried that it didn't work for Office but Microsoft seem to have relented. My eyes thank you
