Default Hyperlinks in an Includetext field do not work. Source and target on SharePoint

The target document is a macro-enabled Template and the source documents are derived from a separate template.

All Documents are being hosted on SharePoint.
Sometimes they work and most often do not. I am unable to determine the factor differentiating the two instances.
When I hover the link appears, when I press Ctrl and click the link grays out and nothing happens.
When I attempt to restart the PC, although no documents are open, Windows asks if I want to save a series of documents. The document titles are ones I've messing around with sometimes the same title is asked more than once. Both the Target and source being linked to are in the set of these supposed open documents.

Your description suggests the documents referenced by the hyperlinks are being opened (but in the background) and, when you exit Word/Windows, those documents aren't being closed properly; that's why you get the prompts next time you start Word. I don't use SharePoint, so I can tell you why the opening behaviour is inconsistent or how it might be resolved - but at least you now know what's happening and that should help with further diagnosis.

I hadn't mentioned that I was also using inserted linked objects within the document. I have realized that those were actually running in the back ground and within my includeText fields were hyperlinks to the source.

I was trying to implement in my template the option for users to select one or the other method. Objects can't span more than one page, which necessitated the need for the includetext method.

I know now that my problem is how Word handles those 'linked' objects in the background. All in all, I've let it get a bit messy :-(
