Default Use field for product table

Hello all,

I have a problem with word 2010 (at least I think it is 2010).

I have a table with following values: [10][12]
Now I want a field to multiply them.

{=SUM(Table1 A1)*SUM(Table1 B1)}

Now... I don't know, but why do I need to put SUM there?
Is there a more elegant way?

Just trying to learn some things about fields since I might need them in some templates later on in the process.

Thanks in advance
