Default Style Window Doesn't Display a Style that I Created

Hi,

Using WORD 2007, Home XP:

I am trying to apply a style that I created in my Normal.dot document, but it is not available in the style window, even though I twice carried out the import/export procedure using Manage Styles. In fact, even before carrying out the procedure, the style I'm trying to get to, appeared as already available in my default document (based on Normal.dot), and I was prompted to click if I wanted to overide the existing style.

Also, I have checked that my style pane window is set to display all styles in alphabetical order, but I just don't see it.

Many thanks to anyone who can try to help.

Default Styles

Several options control style visibility.
First, click on the Options button at the bottom of the Styles Pane (2007). Make sure "In this document" is showing. If that doesn't solve it, go to the Styles Manager (third icon next to the Options link), find the style in the Recommend and Restrict tab lists, and Show and Permit, respectively, the style you want.

If you don't find the style, copy a word in that style from a document or template in which the style is available, to the document in which you wish to have it. It will bring the style with it. Unless one of Word's other bells and whistles is checked wrong...

Best,
Ulodesk

Thanks, Ulodesk.

I was not able to find the style in another document, as you suggested doing in the 3rd method, so I go back to your first and second suggestions to explain the problems I found there:

When I click the Options button, the dialog box that opens doesn't have anything called "in this document."

When I click Manage Styles (is this what you meant by Style Manager?), under the Recommend tab, the style is visible (APA Table), but the row with Show is greyed out.
Under the Restrict tab, the permit button is active, but nothing happens when I click it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again,
Editor

Editor, is this a table style or a paragraph style?
Table styles no longer show up in the styles pane. However, they can be made handy. I have several custom table styles on my Quick Access Toolbar, from which the style can be applied to an existing table. Also, a new table can be saved as an Autotext item, which also can be readily inserted.

Let me know.

Aaahhh, so that's it. Indeed, it is a table style.

Also, I was just about to add to my previous reply that I was able to find "in this document," but in this case, of course, that made no difference.

Thanks for your help.

If you would like assistance with adding it to your Quickstyles, Autotext, or QAT, let me know.

Best,

I was trying to find the way to reply privately that I don't need to pursue this query any further now but appreciate very much the offer (and may ask how another time).

I will be posting a different style question, however, very soon!

Thanks very much,
Editor
