Default Properties/Metadata

When I go to open a file in word, the 'open' window appear on my screen and I click on a file to open it. However that is not my problem... When I hover the cursor over a file in the 'open' window, several of the properties, for that file, appear. My problem is that the date that the file was created is not appearing and I need it to appear. How can I fix this?

I realise that I can right click on the file to see all of the properties for the file but I need to see the date for each file as I hover the cursor over the list.

I have no reason to think this can be done. However, you can widen your open dialog box and add a column for date created. That way it will be directly displayed in the listing. Such a modification may be tied into Windows in some way. When I made the modification in one Word 2007 session, it transferred to the Open Dialog in Word 2010 and was also present in the next session of Word 2007.

This was done in Windows Vista.

I am pretty sure that is not exposed to VBA, or any manual setting. It would be interesting if someone knows of a way. I am not even sure it is a function of Word. It may be an Office or Windows function.

On Windows 7, the Open file dialogue seems to be the same component as the File explorer; so, right-clicking on the free space after the last column header lets you select which standard information fields are displayed. 'date modified' and 'date created' are two of the possibilities. I think I remember the same behaviour from XP.
Pretty well the same as Charles said, but differently expressed <g>

Except the OP is asking (I think) about the floating "mouseover" feature, not the column display. The column display has been able to be modified for quite a while.

If the date information is already visible in the column, OP might not need to hover over the entry …

I guess I assumed (dangerous) that the OP wanted to be able to know the created date when looking at a file list in the File Open dialog. Having it show up in the column does that.

Of course, if you know how to modify the mouseover information, by all means please enlighten us all.

Oh for sure the dialog can be modified to show the information, but all I mentioned was that this was not what was asked.

And no, I have no idea how to modify the mouseover. As stated I am pretty sure it is not exposed to VBA, nor to any manual setting. I used to know how to do it in Windows Explorer, by directly modifying the HTML used. But Word....nope. I do not think it can be done.

Thanks for the help everybody.

Yes I am enquiring about the mouseover feature. I have the information in the column display but find it more friendly with the mouseover.

The mouseover feature is possible because I have it on XP on my home computer but not on my work computer, just don't know how to do it.

Surely this is possible???

You say that the mouseover IS showing, but you want to have it different - with DateCreated added. I do not think this is possible.

Yes Mouseover shows date created etc in XP on home computer but not my work computer. The mouseover on my work computer is showing only file type and size.

So it is possible to show date created etc on the mouseover but I don't know how to do it.
