Pasting of hyperlinks behavior suddenly changed
Previously when I copied a hyperlink off a web page and pasted into a Word doc, it appeared as it should. Example: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853257/CSS%20Faq Now it is suddenly pasting like this: {HYPERLINK"http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853257/CSS%20Faq"} I've tried the various paste options and none seem to function as desired. I've looked in options and maybe it's the answer is there and I just missed it. Help appreciated. |

Press Alt+F9 to hide field codes (what you are seeing now) and redisplay field results.

Wow, worked like a charm. However, that's pretty obscure. Is there somewhere in the options that I could have done that? Without help here, I would have never found that! Many thanks!

Most likely, you activated the option by pressing Alt+F9 by mistake (it's a toggle).
In the Word Options dialog box (File tab | Options), you'll find the corresponding option in the Advanced category; look under "Show document content" for "Show field codes instead of their values."

Phew, this version of Word has a steep learning curve....and, this just now helped me to see images again. Had lost that ability. I unchecked "show picture placeholders" and now my images show again. If it had also said "instead of picture" - it sure would have been a tip off on what it actually meant.
Many thanks! |

I guess you skipped Word 2007, then, where the real learning curve occurred? :-)
Most options from older versions are still available, but they have moved around quite a lot (also between Word 2007 and 2010 <sigh>). For the display of pictures, see http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/InvisibleGraphics.htm.

The Alt-F9 toggle problem has been around at least since Word 97.

I'm not sure what you mean. In what way is Alt+F9 a "problem"?

I probably messed it up when I was trying to reassigned my function key in Dreamweaver for display in browser. Normally it uses F12, but my F12 has my wireless on it. In my first awkward attempts, that's probably when it happened and I just happened to have Word open at the time. |
