Default New macros disappear every new session!

Hey, Since a year ago, my Word 2003 do not "memorize" new macros. They work just for that session, and next time I start Word, I find only my old macros saved in 2012. Can you help me, please?

Are you recording macros? You can look in the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11) to see that the macros have been added to the template that you expect. Click View | Project Explorer and then click the Normal template. Recorded macros will be in the NewMacros module. If you see the macros there, click the Save button in the Visual Basic Editor (or press Ctrl+S). That should save the template explicitly.

Default Two more questions

Thankyou very much, Stefan. I hope you can answer two questions important for me.

1 the same thing than with macros: also all my autotexts (I suppose, my Word is in spanish) also disappear when I close the program. What I do?

2 I use MSWord 2003 at home (I'm a translator) because I know everything I need to write, or where to look for it (of course I had no idea of this occult world of Visual Basic Editor; I will try to know it a little bit). But in my work they have both versions MSW 2003 and 2007 (I do not know other versions). I cannot use the 2007' because of the display, new for me (excuse if I do not use the precise terms, but I hope you will understand). Every time I go to the next room to work with 'my' 2003. There is a way, in the 2007 version to change the display to another similar to the one of 2003'? It would be great. Tank you.

Default Excuse me! (A third question)

My macros and autotexts use to work without problem until a year ago. Why they stpped to do it and remained 'petrified', always like they were that day? I need to close every Word session opening the Visual Basic ans save the changes? Or there is a way to restore things like they were, in a way thay the new macros and new autotexts be stored authomatically like before?
Thank you

You are apparently storing your modifications in the file normal.dot. Something is interfering with your ability to save changes to this file, probably a poorly-written Add-In. Another possibility is that you are in a corporate environment where someone in IT has frozen this file.

First option, the one I use, is to put the modifications in other files. Everything except style changes can be stored in a different Global Template.

A second option is to directly open this normal.dot file as a document on the screen, make the changes and save the file. Normal Template in Microsoft Word - How to Open

The third option is to figure out which Add-In is causing the problem and disable or delete it. How to find out whether any Word Add-ins have been installed The Add-Ins that have recently been spotted to do this deal with Blue-tooth functions but Add-Ins written by Adobe and even Microsoft have caused this problem in the past.

Using the Visual Basic Editor provides a way to save the Normal template, which apparently isn't working correctly. Once the template has been properly saved, you don't have to use the editor again (unless you want to save more changes of course).

As Charles suggests, the next, important, step is to troubleshoot the underlying problem.

I am really grateful for your help. But I also realize that it seems too difficult for my computer's knowledge. So I will focus the general queation otherwise. I would like to delete the program installation and re-install. But I did some monthes ago, and the program continued using some archive still stored somewhere. So the question now is: what I have to delete --besides the uninstallation in the control panel-- to avoid this?

Uninstalling and re-installing will not help with this issue! The problem is most likely an Add-In that is not installed or uninstalled with Word but is added to Word by some other program.

Read the article on Add-Ins. See if you can temporarily disable any that are installed and try making and saving a change, perhaps a simple test AutoText.

If that is too much for you, use the methods on the page to open your normal.dot template. With that template open, save a change to a style or save a macro. Then save the template. (Note, no text, not even a date or header or footer should be in the normal.dot template. AutoText is fine, though.)
