Hi
I have a word document with 4 pages. Word insists on giving me an extra blank page. When I type and go over onto another page, I still have an extra page. NOW 6 PAGES. I have looked on line. Tried draft mode highlighted a row and hit delete. Simply hit delete. Word will not get rid if the extra page. This is frustrating and I have to regularly copy content to a new word document. I have been to a Microsoft site Delete a single page of content You can select and delete a single page of content anywhere in your document.
NO THIS DOES NOT WORK. |

Try clicking the ¶ button on the home tab OR CTRL+* (CTRL+SHIFT+8) to display the formatting characters. There you can tell if any page breaks appear that may be causing your problem.

Been there and got T-shirt
Yes there is a ¶ If I try to delete it, it will not delete. what's the next move? I do have a header with a title and a version date automatically updated. |

This is strange behaviour. I typed a few letters and deleted the lot. Now the page is gone. Any explanation as to why I had to add text/data first?

You cannot delete the last paragraph mark in a document. It actually contains much of the information about the document. It is, at least, a Section mark holding all of the headers/footers, page numbering, margins and orientation for the section.

No you are missing the point. I have 4 pages and the last page has an end paragraph marker. scroll down and you find a 5th page with nothing on it but a ¶ for example
<page 4 half of a page> Yours sincerely XXX¶ <page 5> ¶ <this is a blank page with a solitary ¶> If I would add to the letter in this case Yours sincerely XXX and it ran into a 5th page I would still have a 6th page with a solitary ¶ Hi-light the ¶ and try to delete and it refuses to delete. Add some text £$$%%^¶ now Hi-light the £$$%%^¶ and hay presto the line is deleted and the extra page is GONE. This must be a Microsoft BUG in word. Why do I have to type some random text before deleting the line in order to delete the extra page. |

This is no bug! However, if you would upload the document...or a portion thereof, someone could tell you more definitively.

See http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/BlankPage.htm.
As others have suggested, you can also upload an example document, if you want to. In the Reply form, click the Go Advanced button; then you will see an option to attach a file.

This is not a bug in Word. It is how it works. The people telling you this do not work for Microsoft. I don't even like Microsoft.
Upload the document. |
