Looking at your example document again, I couldn't find any character styles. This is a bit of a mystery.

I tried to see if a style can apply to part of a caption and apparently the answer is no. At least I can find no way to do it. The suggested I might try selecting a full caption complete with its full desired formatting and then click "Update caption to match selection". Which I did, but the problem still exists - "Table 1" etc as Times 10 while the rest of the caption is Calibri 12. So I guess I'll just live with it. Thanks for all your efforts, though.

Confirming Stefan's observations, when I open your sample document I do not get TNR for your table captions. Also, I see no character styles in the document.

You can apply character styles to part of a paragraph, so it's certainly possible.

The next step is to check if you are running an add-in with Word.
