Any ability or plugins to have screen pops capture info to paste into a template?
Hi everyone,
I have a template in Word that has fields like customer name, customer address, customer first name etc, and it's basically a quote/letter so "Dear FirstName, your total price is XYZ price" etc. Right now I just overwrite each field when I want to make a new quote. I guess this is sort of like mail merge I'm looking for but it's not for mass customers. I'm wondering if there's any way or any plug in that would pop up a screen that almost steps you though filling in the values, like the first pop up says "Customer First Name" and then "Customer Full Name", "Customer address" etc and you fill it in press enter and then when all are filled in, it adds them all to the Word document in the spaces mentioned. Is that possible with Word 2013 or with some sort of plug in for word? Thanks! |

What you are asking about is called a User Form.
Create a Simple Userform If for any reason you can't use macros, look into the MacroButton Field. It allows you to create non-macro prompts. You can move to the next field using the F11 key. BTW, I do use mailmerge for preparing things that go to one individual. The variable information is stored in an Excel worksheet. This is done when I have more than one document to prepare regarding the same information, sometimes over a period of time. |

That worked great thanks! The userforms are perfect. The only issue I have is that if I insert a DocVariable into word, it makes it bold. When there's no variable it says "Error! No document variable supplied." which I'd prefer to have as the default when you open it. The problem is when I run the macro, every variable field is bolded. Before running the macro, I can click each word one at a time in the Error!, No, document, variable etc and unbold it and save. When I run the macro it keeps it unbolded. When I modify the fields they stay unbolded, but if I run the macro and clear all the fields and run it to erase them all, they go back to bold. Not a huge issue as we'd open the file and it would be formatted properly, run the macro and we are good, but any reason that when I enter a blank variable value and it goes back to the "Error!" message, that it always makes it go back to bold?
I just noticed that it's only on some fields, like a few of them stay unbolded all the time but others go back, so thinking it must be some kind of formatting issue on the page? |
