Word tables: prevent word from highlighting whole cell when I highlight text
I frequently need to copy or edit the text in one cell of a Word table. If you are very careful with the mouse, you can indeed scoop just the text. But go one micron too far and Word highlights the whole cell - or worse, several cells - asking if you want to delete the cell (or even row).
Is there any way of turning this behaviour off? It makes table editing time-consuming and frustrating (and turns the air here blue). I only ever want to scoop the text in a cell. Thank you! |

Text only
I use the keyboard to select. Position the cursor, press Ctrl+Shift plus the down arrow. If only one paragraph inhabits the cell, you will select the entire cell -- but wait! With Ctrl+Shift still held down, simply press the left arrow key and only the text will be selected.
Navigating in tables (and untabled text) can be much faster when you keep your hands on the keyboard. It just takes a little time to get used to using these and other keys to zip around, and you'll save lots of time in the long run. Cheers, Ulodesk |

Thank you, Ulodesk. I will try to use your workaround!
I can only use one hand and am used to using just the mouse cursor. What I really want is a Word option that ensures the cursor selects only text and doesn't jump to selecting whole cells or rows when that's not what I intended. I'm guessing that this doesn't exist. |
