Hello,
I've created a Form content .docm Word document (Word 2010) with some macros in it, saved it as a .dotm template and created a new .docx document based on that template. Works fine if I open it direct from Word. However, I need to put this document on a website. When I open the .docx file off the website, the template doesn't load and therefore my macros don't run. Looks like the document looks for the template on the client pc and not the webserver. How can I get the template to load when called off the website please? Thanks. ![]() |

I believe macro security prevents Word from loading macros from the server. I suspect that the only solution is to ask users to download both the document and the template, and put the template in a trusted location, such as their User Templates folder.

I've been thinking there must be an easier way to do this - so I saved my file as a .docm file, so that there's no external templates to load. I then expected to be able to open the .docm file off the webserver from a client pc, possibly with that 'Enable macro' dialogue to begin with. Alas - Internet Explorer opens the .docm file as a zip file !
Grateful of any help round this. Cheers. |

The fact that the file won't open properly suggests a problem with file associations. On the problematic PC(s), can you open *.docm which are not stored on a web site?

Properly set up, I don't believe a PC will run macros in a document on a website, unless that is set up as a trusted location (not advised).

Indeed, running the macro isn't going to work (as I suggested earlier in this thread). But the OP wrote that he/she couldn't even open the file.
