Turn off balloon popups
Hi, can these be disabled in Word 2003 ?

Are you referring to the markup balloons (which display comments and markup to the right of the Word window)? In that case, do the following: Click Tools | Options. On the Track Changes tab, change the "Use balloons (Print and Web Layout)" option to "Never." Click OK.

Thanks Stefan... but no, it wasn't that. They're wee yellow balloons (like comment in Excel) which show the addresses of a Link in the document.
They also say 'CTRL + click to follow link'. I only want to remove it as they get in the way when trying to edit the text they cover up. |

OK, you're referring to the ScreenTip that displays on hover. I'm not sure if it can be turned off.

Thinking about it, have you tried to clear the "Show document screentip on hover" found in the Display category of File | Options?
